Code Your Own Book Quotes Widget for iPhone using Notion
When was the last time you made something you were proud of?
For me, it was last week. I made a widget for my iPhone to replace an app I was no longer using. Earlier this year, I put my Kindle in the drawer and started reading physical books again. This disrupted my recall of quotes and highlights from the books I read, so I made a widget that pulls a random highlight from a Notion Database.
Not only does it display a random entry, but there is a rating system that the script follows to display higher-rated entries more often.
I’ve detailed how I made it on my blog and provided instructions so you can make something similar. Check it out.
Here are some recent quotes my widget has displayed for me.
Pain is unavoidable, but how we react to the events and circumstances that happen in our lives is up to us, and that will dictate whether we suffer or not.
Joseph Nguyen - Don’t Believe Everything You Think
Break the chains of your thought, and you break the chains of your body, too.
Richard Bach and Russell Munson - Johnathan Livingston Seagull
You can never provide too much value. But, you can provide too little.
Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option.
Dan Sullivan and Benjamin Hardy - Who Not How
What is a massive goal you can set to force yourself to take massive action in your life?
I often switch between books, but I try to complete one each week to extract ideas to implement into my life. It’s easy to read a book and forget the key takeaways. I created this widget to ensure I come across these ideas often and am reminded of them.
If you prefer to read Kindle Books, check out Readwise. It’s an excellent tool to help you remember your Kindle highlights.
What’s a book you’ve recently read or are currently reading? Hit reply and let me know. I love discovering new books.
Blessings,
