Welcome to The Journey
Notes and writings about my journey as a solo entrepreneur, husband, father, pilot, and follower of Christ.
Welcome!
Let me explain everything you need to know about my Substack in a few short minutes.
Mission
My goal with each publication is to share insights and action steps I am taking to become more effective in the areas of life God has me in, and I want to share that with others so we can learn from each other.
What does that mean? Sharing from my life about the ups and downs and what I learned in between. There will be some common themes here, but if you spend enough time with my writing, you’ll:
Be encouraged to draw closer to Christ
Desire to be more effective in your chosen area of work
Be building closer relationships
Get vulnerable with yourself
Consider your mental and physical health
See life’s challenges as opportunities
Stop striving for perfectionism and act
Sign up now so you can join me on this journey. It’s not supposed to be done alone.
(Though this is a new venture, I have a long-standing track record of publishing content with over 225,000 YouTube scribers across three different channels and over 450,000 students across three different online educational platforms.)
About Me
The tl;dr (too long, didn’t read) on me is this: I am a husband and father to four beautiful children. We live in Kalispell, MT, where we chose to raise our family. They are, first and foremost, my ministry. I enjoy assisting with their education, coaching their sports teams, and nerding out with them on what they enjoy. I also have my pilot’s license and love sharing my passion for aviation with others.
Details
At the age of 25, I started over. I had a few major life incidents and the realization that the skateboard shop I had started when I was 20 would not be a lifelong career. I was starting to feel like dropping out of college was a bad idea.
Thankfully, I was optimistic and open to new ideas. I knew I could learn anything I wanted by reading and asking the right questions. Thus, I started a lifelong journey of trying to figure it out on my own.
After closing my skateboard shop, I started designing websites for other small businesses. I taught myself this skill while running my shop. I still build websites for small businesses and organizations today and provide other digital marketing services.
I married in 2008 and had my first child in 2010. Fast-forward to 2020, and we have four children and moved with them to Montana. Moving to Montana was a lifestyle choice, but God has continued to bless me with opportunities when I allow myself to be open to them.
I’ve taken a lot of lumps along the way. The more you desire to discover about yourself, the more healing that will be required.
In 2017, my internal journey started to take off when I finally realized I was not enough to carry myself forward. I gave my life to Christ when I was a teen and even had some “come to Jesus” moments along the way, but I had never truly surrendered all areas of my life to him.
Today, my priorities look entirely different compared to a few years ago.
My relationship with my wife has never been better.
I’m intentional with each of my children.
My business is growing and has a clear direction.
I’m serving in my local church body.
I’m investing in relationships.
I’m discipling others.
My life looks completely different from what it was and where it could have stayed had I allowed myself to remain complacent.
Now, I am trying to share what I have learned.
If you join me on this journey, I can promise this.
In this Substack, I promise to do the following:
I will give you everything I can.
I will share the hard things and rejoice over the lessons.
I will be open and transparent.
I will challenge you and give you the hope that I have received.
I will respond to your comments.
Promise me this in return:
Don’t simply agree or disagree with my opinions; use that information to form your opinion. We now live in a world where opinions are weapons rather than a chance to expand our perspective and inspire us to think deeper.
I desire for you to have a mental shift that allows you to define and develop your own personal freedom, to become healthier both mentally and physically, to build relationships, and to enjoy this one life you were given.
